Demonstration in front of the Reference Center for Lyme Borreliosis

On November 24th, 2017, Lyme patients and their relatives came to demonstrate in front of the Reference Center for Lyme Borreliosis, in Strasbourg, France. This demonstration was organized by society The Right To Be Cured (“Le Droit de Guérir“ in French) to protest against:

  • The delay releasing new Lyme guidelines
  • Disinformation conferences from infectious disease specialists in denial
  • Prosecutions against LLMDs
  • The use of fake tests such as ELISA in hospitals
  • Medical wandering, fake treatments (antidepressants, tranquilizers…)

For the occasion, the society sent a letter to major deniers, telling about the demonstration that was planned, the reasons why patients were angry, and asking them to read scientific literature on chronic Lyme disease (with attached publications).

One of the symbols for this disastrous health scandal is the Reference Center for Lyme Borreliosis in Strasbourg where bad decisions are taken, where notorious tests are qualified, and where its director, Benoît Jaulhac works hard stifling this health scandal.

Patients braved the cold, wet, weather of Alsace to make noise with whistles, megaphones, and chanting striking slogans:

  • ELISA killed me
  • Stop the pandemic
  • Medical wandering = Suffering
  • Academy of Medicine = Sect
  • ELISA test = Unreliable
  • Jaulhac in Jail
  • Lyme detected = Lives saved
  • Chronicity recognized = Patients heared

That day, patients really wanted to put an end to the denial of their disease, so they decided to symbolically bury denial with a casket, and offbeat funerals. They put photos of representatives of denial near the casket, with candles, and graveyard plaques with the year the infectious disease specialists graduated, and the year denial ended (2017).

Offbeat funerals took place to say goodbye to denial.

Patients were invited to write messages on the casket.

Many more photos available on this memorable day. Local television aired the event. During the demonstration, two doctors came and mugged a Lyme patient because they wanted to steal a portray featuring one of the deniers. The demonstration ended with moving testimonials from patients if front of the demonstrators.
